The ICAC-CERCA Archaeometrical Studies Unit (UEA) has a collection of samples, thin sections, and reference materials formed by marbles and other rocks used in Antiquity.

The collections include materials collected in the main quarries used in the Roman period around the Mediterranean (Paros, Naxos, Thasos, Pentellic, Afyon…) and from the Iberian Peninsula (marble from Almadén de la Plata, Macael, etc.) as well as an extensive collection of less opulent materials from the area of Catalonia.

The reference collection of the UEA, with more than 8.000 samples, is currently the largest assemblage of its type in Spain.
