Use of terms from a thesaurus can make your data more easily discoverable and help to categorize data and allow people and computers to compose lists of data that share important characteristics; your data will be included in some of those lists and not others.

Archaeology thesaurus

Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT)

AAT is a thesaurus containing generic terms in several languages, relationships, sources, and scope notes for agents, work types, roles, materials, styles, cultures, and techniques related to art, architecture, and other cultural heritage. It is available in Catalan and Spanish.

The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN)

The TGN includes names and associated information about places. Places in TGN include administrative political entities (e.g., cities, nations) and physical features (e.g., mountains, rivers). Current and historical places are included. Other information related to history, population, culture, art and architecture is included.

Pleiades

Pleiades is a community-built gazetteer and graph of ancient places. It publishes authoritative information about over 36,000 ancient places and spaces (and growing). It provides unique services for finding, displaying, and reusing that information under open license. It publishes not just for individual human users, but also for search engines and for the widening array of computational research and visualization tools that support humanities teaching and research.

PeriodO

PeriodO is a gazetteer that records the spatial and temporal boundaries assigned to a given cultural period by an authoritative source. The description of a period includes a unique identifier (URI) which allows clear and stable linking and integration of data resources which refer to the same period.
